Theme: Respect for All as Citizens of One World
The number of people who have access to modern wealth and convenience in comparison with the past has increased greatly. However, in coming by these things, we have in turn lost something precious.
In the search for lasting solutions to the underlying ills of society, I believe we should bear in mind the following:
As active citizens of one world, it goes without saying that we strive to respect each person and that we yearn for them to be happy, with hearts filled with sympathy serving as the basis for each of our actions.Society is today experiencing upheaval the likes of which are witnessed but once every 100 years. In the 100 year period we are now entering, it is crucial that we ensure the ability of people around the world to prosper and experience freedom and mutual understanding with one another.
We selected the above theme for the 2010 JCI World Congress in Osaka with the desire to send out to the world this message of hope and goodwill from the city of Osaka.
