2. To facilitate and forward applications for college scholarships to Cebu Mary Immaculate College and other colleges depending on the choice of students wishing to avail of college education.

Realizing the importance but lack of Career Orientation among graduating high school learners especially in public high schools, the members of JCI Mandaue gathered together a pool of professionals on a 10 day mission to visit 10 selected public high schools to conduct basic career counselling and to facilitate and forward applications for college scholarships to Cebu Mary Immaculate College and other colleges depending on the choice of students wishing to avail of college education.

Benefit to the Community

Choosing the career path is one of the most important choices one makes during his or her lifetime. The man ‘s career often defines a public school student’s social status, material well-being and even family life.  Unfortunately, the career choices are usually to be made in the middle or high, school when the person is very young, unconfident, or vice versa overconfident, and when he /she is still unsure in what he /she wants to do during the lifetime. In addition, the students at that period of life often have wrong information about many professions, or do not have any notion of them .

The average high-school student usually has little knowledge of the not-so-popular occupations, the representatives of which are rarely shown in the movies and TV shows. That ‘s why the range of professions to choose from is often little for the contemporary teenagers, which leads to the excess of those who have “popular ” education and the lack of the representatives of other professions.

During the conduct of this project, many members realized the the student have the following needs:

1. Information about the range of existing professions
2. Decision in what sphere does he /she wants to specialize
3. Basic knowledge has to have in order to apply for the chosen specialty
4. Thorough knowledge about the higher education establishments capable of granting the desired degree
5. The ability to evaluate a public school student’s knowledge and abilities fairly in order to help him or her to make the right career choice.

Benefit to the Families of Graduating Students

This project creates an awareness among student and their families that emphasis should be placed on careers , their requirements , and the lifestyles related to those careers . Industry and business representation should play a role . Career planning information should focus on enhancing skills and self-conceptualization activities .
It is very important that the participants of the program are aware of what they are going to do , and for mentors to understand their duties clearly.

Authorities advised our chapter members to find the representatives from various professions who would be willing to make informational presentations to students about their careers and the associated perks and responsibilities that come with having such jobs . The participants were encouraged to discuss their educational background and its impact on their career choice and professional development for to make them evaluate their perspectives and choose according to the results.

Value to the JCI Organization

JCI Career Highway has benefited the organization by involving the members through the whole process of the project. The members are more aware now of the problems plaguing the public school system. This project develops the members skills through Project Planning, experiences in the classroom, Networking through sponsors, delegation of tasks and helping assist the patients.

In essence it has made all JCI members to BE BETTER in 2 areas of opportunities: INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT and COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT.
