PRESENTS

MANDAUE NIGHTS 2020

VIRTUAL FELLOWSHIP AND KAMUSTAHAN

BY: KRISTOFFER JUN YURONG

On 15th of August 2020, the Merry Men of JCI Mandaue held their first-ever virtual fellowship and kamustahan dubbed as MANDAUE NIGHTS.

The event was fostered to ensure that the JCI community still breathes life and hope amidst the current global health crisis.

The event was a bevy of virtual shenanigans that included a love problem-solving segment, dubbed as “Tambag Alang sa Gugma”; a “Fast Talk” segment patterned from a popular showbiz oriented talk show and “Mandaue’s Got Talent” which was intended to showcase the talents of the attendees and tons of virtual and online games to entertain the viewers.

Raffles made the segments also very exciting as prizes from sponsors abound the whole fellowship night. The virtual fellowship also witnessed a mini concert from its very special guest, Anton Mansueto of “Glynis and Anton” – Cebu’s most sought after acoustic duo. It was not just the highlight; it was also the best part of the night as guests were able to sing their hearts out with their most requested songs plus today’s music hits.

The five equally charming hosts delighted the audience with their charisma, looks and comical demeanor consisted of Merry Men – Brad Dablos, Edmar Dionson, JM Bercede Yap, Sam Taguibao and JCI Immediate Past President Rod Limpot Jr.

Special visitors also added amusement to the fellowship as our sister chapters Womandaue, Boholana Kisses, Bohol Limestone and Bohol Chocolate Hills also joined the revelry. Presidents from other chapters joined the fun as well.

Truly it was one great night with almost 4 hours of virtual fun, food, drinks and music as we all celebrated life the ‘better normal’ way.

This event was made possible through the generosity of these sponsors:

MandaWeCare: First Aid Training for Guizo Daycare Parents

MandaWeCare: First Aid Training for Guizo Daycare Parents

Project chair: Sam Uy

JCI Mandaue facilitated a project called “MandaWeCare: First Aid Training for Guizo Daycare Parents” in partnership with Barangay Guizo, Mandaue CSWS and our guests from JCI Busan Region. The purpose of the project is to educate the parents of 3-4 year old daycare students the different kinds of basic first aid to be able to preserve life, prevent worsening of injury and promote recovery. Around 50 mothers and 100 children attended the event. The children were given meals, ice cream and loot bags containing snack bars, juices and multivitamins for kids and the mothers were given their own first aid kits and meals at the end of the program.

one of the main objective is to educate the parents of daycare students about basic first aid.

– Have an outreach project in partnership with JCI Busan
– Gather all the mothers and children in the daycare for an introduction.
– First aid training facilitated by our guest speaker, Anna Cervantes, RN.
– Games for the children, followed by feeding of meals and desserts, the giving of loot bags
– Turnover of donations by JCI Busan Region containing food, appliances and clothing.

In the beginning of the program, there were a few games and talent performances as an ice breaker to get everyone acquainted. Then after the proper acknowledgement of officers, members, partners and guests, the children were moved to the Barangay hall where they were given meals. The parents stayed in the classroom and learned basic first aid, like how to deal with fever, wounds, bleeding, bites, nosebleed, allergies, shock, fracture, sprain, burns, choking, electrocution and other concerns. As a reward for finishing the class, the parents were all given their own first aid kits after the training. Lastly, the parents were given their meals before closing the program.

It was a successful project because every single member of JCI Mandaue and JCI Busan Region participated in the program. The guests from Korea distributed the meals, the ice cream and the loot bags while the JCI Mandaue members facilitated the class, the feeding, distributed the first aid kits and meals to the parents. Both JCI regions were able to create a stronger bond and friendship while practicing their teamwork in making this event run as smooth as possible. The parents all learned important lessons on first aid and most importantly, the children all had a very good time.

Project School is Cool – Bags, Food and Play

Project Chair: Sam Uy

On May 28, 2019, JCI Mandaue hosted the “Project School is Cool Bags, Food and Playtime for 500 Daycare Students. 500 school children from 13 Daycare centers Mandaue City were given school bags loaded with school supplies. This project was chosen because it is aligned wit the chapter’s advocacy, which is building daycare classrooms for the children of Mandaue City.

The goal is to make 500 kids happy and excited to go to school when classes start on July while at the same time, promoting primary education for the daycare students ages 3-5 years old because these are the formative years in a child’s development.

On top of the bags distributions, the kids also enjoyed an indoor playground specially procured for the event and we’re treated to local ice cream, and donuts courtesy of Dunkin Donuts. While CSWS gave slippers for the kids and food for the parents of the students.

It was very organized and all the partners and members contributed in making this project a success. We were able to put smiles in the kid’s faces and seeing this makes all of our hard work, worth it. The project was featured at Sunstar, Cebu Daily News and inews.ph

Together We Prosper: JCI Mandaue attends JCI Sanchung Anniversary

Project Chair:Joseph Miguel Ortiz

A total of eight JCI Mandaue members flew to Taipei, Taiwan to attend the anniversary of its sister chapter, JCI Sanchung from March 22 to March 25, 2019. The trip was a great opportunity for cultural and professional exchange among the two JCI local organisations and the countries of the Philippines and Taiwan. It was also a fulfilment of the annual commitment in the sisterhood agreement between JCI Mandaue and JCI Sanchung.

The trip fulfilled three objectives:

1.) to further positive and fruitful international relations between the Philippines and Taiwan and JCI Mandaue and JCI       Sanchung,

2.) to fulfill the annual tradition and commitment of visiting sister chapter locations.

3.) to promote cultural and professional exchange among the members of JCI Mandaue and JCI Sanchung.

There was correspondence between the Presidents and officers of JCI Mandaue and JCI Sanchung for coordination of hotel, transportation, and itinerary. JCI Mandaue’s delegation attended all the events hosted by JCI Sanchung ranging from formal JCI events, to casual lunches, dinners, and tours hosted by their current and old members.

The four day trip to Taiwan, strengthened the long and proud relationship between JCI Mandaue and JCI Sanchung – a sisterhood that has lasted for almost 40 years. The eight man delegation of JCI Mandaue was very well taken cared of by the Sanchung brothers and sisters. JCI Mandaue’s 2019 president, Rodrigo Limpot Jr. represented his chapter well by attending fully all the activities arranged by JCI Sanchung.

JCI Mandaue also extended an invitation for JCI Sanchung to come and visit during JCI Mandaue’s 2020 induction and turnover ceremonies, so that the courtesy and hospitality of hosting as sister chapters can be extended on the Philippine side. Because of the success of this trip, both chapters see a fruitful sisterhood for the years to come.
