Cleft lip and palate is a condition that affects numerous individuals here in the Philippines, presenting them with unique struggles throughout their lives. Children born with this condition face challenges in feeding, speaking, and even breathing properly. Moreover, they often endure social stigma and discrimination, making it difficult for them to fully integrate into society.
In light of these challenges, JCI Mandaue has taken a step forward with its MandaWe Smile initiative. This heartfelt program aims to address the needs of cleft lip and palate patients, offering them the opportunity to undergo corrective medical surgery. By providing these individuals with the necessary medical interventions, MandaWe Smile seeks to promote children’s overall well-being and enable them to lead fulfilling lives.
The launching of MandaWe Smile took place last March 18, 2023, during the momentous occasion of JCI Mandaue’s 60th Induction and Turnover Ceremonies. The overwhelming response and generosity of the attendees allowed us to collect more than Php 52,000 as the initial funding for the project. This remarkable show of solidarity and compassion has set a strong foundation for the success of MandaWe Smile, providing hope for those affected by cleft lip and palate.
