Who we are

JCI Stands for Junior Chamber International

JCI is a membership-based nonprofit organization of young active citizens ages 18 to 40 in more than 100 countries who are dedicated to create positive change in their communities through leadership development and community service. Each JCI member shares the belief that in order to create lasting positive change, we must improve ourselves and the world around us. JCI members take ownership of their communities by identifying problems and creating targeted solutions to create impact.

History

Founded by Ariston M. Cortes on March 15, 1964 with a group of Mandaue City’s foremost visionaries and leaders, and birthed as one of the earliest Junior Chamber International (JCI) chapters in the Philippines by JCI Cebu, Inc., JCI Mandaue holds the reputation as Mandaue City’s foremost all-male Junior Chamber and one of the oldest JCI chapter in Central Visayas. Over the years, the local organization has garnered numerous awards and opportunities to hosting official JCI events through the efforts of its brilliant presidents and proactive membership. JCI Mandaue continues to foster international partnership and understanding with its foreign sisterhood partnerships, further adding to its distinction among chapters in JCI Philippines.

CEREMONIAL TURNOVER OF THE MERRY MEN GOLDEN MEDALLION AND THE PRESIDENTIAL DIAMOND RING

The most solemn rite in our induction and turnover ceremonies is the official turnover of the MerryMen’s Presidential Golden Medallion and the Diamond Ring.

The medallion’s weight grows heavier every year as each president adds his gold plate with his name to it. As the incumbent president dons it on, the heavy responsibilities of the presidency comes with it. While its weight reminds him of the importance of his role in guiding the chapter to be better than it is, the act of the past presidents passing the medallion on to him one-by-one serves as solace as it signifies their commitment to support him all the way in his One-Year-to-Lead journey.

Another symbolic rite unique only to JCI Mandaue is the IPP’s turnover of the presidential ring that follows after the medallion has been conferred.

On his knees, IPP Jude Raymond Solamillo humbly passes on the ring to relinquish his office to a new leadership to subject himself to the authority of the incumbent, President JM Bercede Yap III. This also signifies Pres JM’s marriage to the chapter and the brotherhood of the Merry Men.
