Project Andam Mandaue

A year-round preparedness drive that helps Mandaue families build go-bags, learn evacuation basics, and ready their barangays before the next storm makes landfall.

In Cebu, the rains do not ask permission. Andam is Cebuano for ready — and that is exactly what this program is about: getting families, puroks, and barangays prepared long before a typhoon or flood arrives, so that when it does, no one is caught off guard.

The Merry Men run hands-on preparedness sessions in partnership with barangay disaster officers and local responders. Households learn to assemble a proper emergency go-bag, map the nearest evacuation routes, and keep important documents and medicines storm-ready. We pay special attention to the neighbors who need a head start — senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and families living closest to the coast and the riverbanks.

Between sessions, the chapter keeps preparedness top of mind: simple checklists, weather-advisory reminders, and refreshers timed to the start of the rainy season. The goal is a culture of readiness, not a one-day event.

Preparedness is service done early. By helping our kababayan get andam before the wind picks up, JCI Mandaue turns anxious waiting into confident, organized action — the kind of quiet groundwork that saves lives when it matters most.
