Sagop Bakhaw: Stronger Roots for a Greener Mandaue

JCI Mandaue, through its Sagop Bakhaw initiative, continues its mission to restore and protect Mandaueโ€™s coastal ecosystems. For our second stop at Barangay Umapad (South Mangrove Patch), we planted ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฌ ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น ๐— ๐—ถ๐˜†๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ถ ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜€ in alignment with JCI Philippines’ Think Green National Program, themed “๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐„๐ง๐ฏ๐ข๐ซ๐จ๐ง๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ง๐š๐›๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐‹๐จ๐ง๐ -๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฆ ๐„๐œ๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฐ๐š๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ.”
This mangrove forest is Mandaue City’s last remaining forest, serving as a vital ecological shield that protects coastal communities, supports marine biodiversity, and strengthens climate resilience. In collaboration with the ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—ถ๐˜๐˜† ๐—”๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐˜‚๐—น๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ข๐—ณ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ and the ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ฒ ๐—™๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ธ ๐—”๐˜€๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป, we also took the opportunity to discuss the livelihood challenges of local fisherfolk and map out future Sagop Bakhaw stops across Mandaueโ€™s remaining coastal barangays.
We were joined by soon to be affiliated ๐—๐—๐—– ๐—ฆ๐˜‚๐—ด๐—ฏ๐—ผ ๐—”๐˜€๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐˜€, young leaders eager to take part in this growing movement for environmental sustainability.
